What is an HNC qualification?

A Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a Level 4 qualification, equivalent to the first year of a university degree. It focuses on practical, work-related learning to help you develop skills for a specific career.


What is an HND qualification?

A Higher National Diploma (HND) is a Level 5 qualification, equivalent to the first two years of a degree. It builds on an HNC and provides more in-depth knowledge and skills for your chosen industry.


Can I study an HNC or HND in Norwich?

Yes, City College Norwich offers a range of HNC and HND courses across subjects such as engineering, construction and digital technologies, all delivered at the Norwich campus.


Can an HND lead to a full degree?

Yes, after completing an HND, many students progress to a “top-up” year to achieve a full bachelor’s degree.


Can I study an HNC or HND while working?

Yes, teaching is often condensed into one or two days per week, making it possible to balance study with employment.


Can I get student finance for an HNC or HND?
