Access to Higher Education courses are an ideal starting point. They can help you develop the skills and qualifications to progress to studying for a degree and your future career. Access courses are a flexible alternative to A Levels and are a recognised qualification for progression to degree courses. All of our Access courses are awarded by CAVA.

Am I eligible to study an Access to Higher Education course?

To study an Access to Higher Education course you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 19+
  • Have a grade C (Grade 4) or above in GCSE English and Maths or equivalent qualifications.

Selection is by interview to discuss your suitability for the course and whether the course is right for you.

Financial support, loans and bursaries for Access to Higher Education

We offer flexible payment plans to help you spread the cost of fees. You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan and bursaries are available to support childcare and travel costs.

Where can Access to Higher Education courses take you?

Access to Higher Education courses are widely recognised by UK universities and colleges, including City College Norwich.

If you are planning to go on to study a degree at a specific university, get in touch with them. You should check that the Access to Higher Education Diploma you have chosen is in a relevant subject area and is recognised by the university or college.

Access to Higher Education for International and ESOL students

Applications from international students and those whose first language is not English are welcome.

We require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading). The required minimum entry requirement is:

  • IELTS (SELT): 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components); or
  • GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics, both at either grade C and above or grade 5.

We were awarded a TEF Silver rating overall in 2023, achieving this for both student experience and student outcomes.
