Our Access to Higher Education Diploma in Science (Health Professions), as validated by CAVA, is a qualification which prepares students aged 19 years and over, without appropriate qualifications, for study at degree level. This Access to Science qualification has been designed using the Health Professions pathway, to support knowledge and skill development in topics relating to allied health careers.
You will cover a range of units, including 15 credits of Biology, including Homeostasis, the Respiratory System, and the Cardiovascular System. You will study topics such as Atypical Behaviour, Nutrition, and Microbiology. All learners will be supported to develop professional behaviours, and develop skills in academic writing, research skills and critical thinking.
The course is delivered for three days per week at the Norfolk House campus in Norwich City Centre. You will have 16 hours of lecturers per week, but will be expected to engage in independent learning alongside this. This course is broadly equivalent to studying for three A Levels in one academic year, so the course is quite fast paced.
You will be supported throughout the course by a personal tutor who will also give you guidance in applying for Higher Education courses. The Access to Higher Education Diploma is awarded by CAVA, and you will be awarded credits on completion of each units with a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade. All credits are awarded are awarded at Level 3 which broadly equates to A Level study. As you will study multiple units, assessment is continuous over the whole year and is based on a number of set pieces of work such as essays, projects, presentations and examinations.
The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science) is widely recognised by UK universities. If you are planning to study a degree course at a specific university, it would be useful to contact them to check that the course you have chosen is in an appropriate subject area and is recognised by the university or college. Please be aware that university entry criteria can change at any time.
